What should we wear?
Do you ever feel like the Grinch when he yells "But what should I wear?!" Same, and literally everyone and their neighbor feels the same way too when they're trying to decide on a wardrobe for their annual family photos.
But don't you worry, I've got your back!
One of the most common questions I get from clients is, "What should we wear?"
I recommend starting with a color palette of 3-4 tones (blue, earth tones, neutrals, pastels) so everyone can express their style while coordinating beautifully with the location. You don’t want to blend into each other or your background so it’s very important to consider the colors around you and what the people next to you will be wearing.
I love patterns!
They are fun! When you introduce patterns into your wardrobe consider having it be the focal point, or a complimentary pattern.
For example: Mom wears a beautiful floral dress, dad wears something nuetral that grounds the photo, and the kids can wear spin off colors from the colors in mom’s dress. You could introduce a gigham pattern, thin stripes, or even a subtle polka dot. It adds character and catches the eye.
Don't be afraid of layers
Layers are also a wonderful way to add it some texture and depth to your photos. Example: Denim/stylish jackets and cardigans. This is one of my favorite suggestions for clothing choices! Layering outfits is a great choice for most seasons. It adds visual interest and versatility to your photos. Instead of just a dress or top and jeans, throw on a sweater or jacket and a hat for an elevated look!
Consider location
Consider having one person be the “focal point” for the wardrobe and cooridinate the rest of the families outfits from that. Make sure to not all wear the same color (example: all white) or else you will blend into each other. And be sure to consider our location we choose, if we are going to be in a very green location, consider wearing colors that will contrast the green or if we are at a white rocky beach (Dewey Short or Stockstill Park) consider wearing grounding colors that will contrast against the white rock while also contrasting against the greenery (Example: burnt orange, cream, tan, blues, and black).
What not to wear
What you want to avoid is wearing clashing patterns and colors. You also want to avoid graphic T-shirts, graphic baseball caps, and brightly colored shoes.
I know this may seem overwhelming!
Be yourself
Just be you! Don't over think it, find something that makes you feel comfy and like *YOU*!
Where your fave color, your fave outfit, and just rock it!
